Bright Sparks Care and Communication

We offer four specifically tailored levels of care, which are described below. We also believe that contact with parents is a key part of nursery life.

:::

Babies (birth to 1 year)

We take babies from a very early age and provide each baby with a high level of personal care and attention, supported by our experienced qualified staff, who follow pre-birth-3 framework.

Wobblers (1 to 2 years)

As each baby becomes more independent we adapt their routine to cater for their changing needs for a wide range of stimulation from fun activities and interaction with their carers and other children.

Toddlers (2 to 3 years)

Our Toddlers are offered a more structured play and learning environment, adapted to fit their individual stage and pace of development. We combine an emphasis on language and motor skills with important social and behavioural development.

Pre-schoolers (3 to 5 years)

Our qualified pre-school staff follow the 3-5 curriculum, working towards Curriculum for Excellence. The children are involved in planning the provision of high quality learning experiences in all areas of the curriculum. We operate a key worker system, which involves staff in monitoring and evaluating children’s progress on a daily basis. The key worker system starts in the baby room and is continued until the children leave for school, when their personal learning profile is sent to the school they will attend. Parents are actively encouraged to participate in all aspects of the nursery. We are in partnership with Edinburgh City Council, which enables us to qualify for funding.

:::

Communication

We believe that communication with parents is a fundamental part of nursery life. In addition to daily written and verbal communication, we publish seasonal newsletters and hold biannual parent/staff meetings. Our aim is to work in partnership with parents and their children.
